Open Access Therapeutic Support – OATS

Peer-led support for people who experience overwhelming emotions

This is a fully co-produced service designed with experts by lived experience.

Open Access

Anyone can become a member. You can come as often as you want for as long as you like.
There are no professional referrals as you self-register to attend.

Active Involvement

Everything that happens at OATS is peer-led, i.e. if you become a member you agree to take an active part in giving and receiving support.

Therapeutic

Staff and volunteers help to facilitate a therapeutic space where the group help each other to improve emotional coping through trauma-informed approaches.

Specialist

A joint enterprise between Kingfisher Treasure Seekers and the Complex Emotional Needs Service within Gloucestershire Health & Care providing a psychologically informed framework.

Service

The facilitators include specialist support staff, volunteers and qualified mental health professionals. The decisions though, are all made by the group, for the group.

Where

Kingfisher Treasure Seekers (Support Rooms), Behind the Cavern, Westgate Street, Gloucester.

When

Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays
2-hour sessions – times can be set according to the wishes of the group. Currently starting with afternoons. Opening February 2024.

Who

Adults (18+) who may experience overwhelming distress, fear, emotional intensity & suicidal thoughts.

What

Peer-led facilitated group therapy using trauma-informed approaches.
Active participation (you will be well supported to participate)

Why

Evidence shows that peer-led therapeutic groups are highly effective in improving coping and in recovering from the impact of traumatic experiences
